PRIVATE CARDIAC MRI
Taking care of your heart health is essential. Proactive measures like a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan can be helpful in addressing underlying problems so a medical professional can provide treatment.
At Expert Cardiologist, we offer private cardiac MRI scans to help you prioritise your heart health.
What Is A Cardiac MRI?
A cardiac MRI is a non-invasive heart scan that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create high-resolution images of your heart and arteries. Specialists can then use these images to diagnose and assess your heart and arteries’ health.
Cardiologists can use a cardiac MRI to diagnose many different heart conditions early on — so treatment is much more effective. Being proactive with your heart health is one of the best treatment methods, preventing any problems or conditions from getting worse and potentially becoming life-threatening.
What Does A Cardiac MRI Look For?
A cardiac MRI can show signs of several heart conditions and problems. It will also assess your heart dimensions, function (including valves) and anatomy to gain an overall picture of your heart health.
Some conditions that they can diagnose include:
- Coronary artery disease
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- Dilated cardiomyopathy
- Heart valve disease
- Cardiac tumours
As well as diagnosing, a cardiac MRI can help monitor already diagnosed heart conditions to see how they are developing or responding to treatment.
A good candidate for a cardiac MRI includes patients experiencing concerns about their heart health, have had other tests that have shown ambiguous results, and have a family history or inherited heart condition.
If you are concerned about your heart health or believe you may be at a higher risk of developing a heart condition, a cardiac MRI can be a great test to assess your arteries and heart function.
How Is A Cardiac MRI Done?
Having a cardiac MRI is a simple process and patients of Expert Cardiologist can look forward to support from Dr Karagiannis at every step. His expert care and knowledge will ensure you have all your needs met throughout your experience.
A cardiac MRI begins with your private cardiologist assessing your medical history and checking your vital signs. Then they will ask you to change into a hospital gown and take you to the room where your MRI will be performed.
The MRI machine is large and has a hole through the middle so that a table can be rolled into it. You will be asked to lie down on this table flat on your back. When inside the machine, it can be pretty noisy and the space is relatively confined. However, the test is painless.
Always let your cardiologist know if you have any fear of enclosed spaces or sensory issues with loud sounds beforehand and we will do our best to make you feel comfortable. You can also communicate with the team through a microphone.
The team will ask you to hold your breath at specific points of the MRI scan to view your chest when it is entirely still. You will also need to do your best to remain still throughout the scan to help the generated images be as clear as possible.
Sometimes the team will use a contrast agent. This is where a special dye is injected into your arteries to help them appear even more clearly on the MRI images.
How Much Does A Cardiac MRI Cost?
We aim to make our services accessible to anyone who needs them at Expert Cardiologist, which we try to reflect in our pricing. An initial consultation costs £250, with any follow-up appointments priced at £200.
During your initial consultation, we will discuss the pricing of a cardiac MRI with our expert team so you have all the information you need to make an informed decision based on your financial budget.

Cardiac MRI Results
After the team completes the cardiac MRI, your cardiologist will assess the images so they can make a diagnosis or recommendation.
Depending on your results, the cardiologist will provide you with a personalised treatment plan, offer advice on improving your heart health or refer you for more testing. Sometimes the results require further investigation and additional tests can be necessary for a complete diagnosis.
